Laval, September 7, 2026 – During a visit to Laval, Charles Milliard announced today that a Liberal government will prioritize the expansion and modernization of the Cité-de-la-Santé in order to increase Laval’s hospital capacity and better meet the growing needs of its population.
The Cité-de-la-Santé is Laval’s only hospital and currently serves more than 460,000 people. However, while Laval’s population has grown significantly over the past few decades, the hospital’s capacity has not kept pace. For patients, this all too often means waiting on a stretcher before being admitted to a room. For families, it means supporting a loved one in a hospital that is constantly operating under pressure. And for the staff, it means having to provide the best possible care in facilities that no longer meet Laval’s current needs.

The people of Laval shouldn’t have to put up with crowded hallways and a hospital that lacks space simply because investments haven’t kept pace with their region’s growth. Specifically, the expansion will provide greater capacity to admit and treat patients, reduce pressure on the emergency department, and improve the conditions under which care is provided. The modernization will also provide facilities better suited to families, children, and patients requiring specialized care, particularly in perinatal care, pediatrics, neonatology, and mental health.
Because a larger hospital cannot be our only solution, the PLQ also wants to reduce the pressure before patients arrive at the emergency room, in particular by strengthening community-based care through its proposal for a public telehealth gateway.
