Biography
Monsef Derraji has been working as an MP for the well-being of his fellow Nelligan residents since 2018. He was named rising star by La Presse's parliamentary awards, and took third place on the podium as parliamentarian of the year in 2019 and 2020. In 2021, he was also awarded third place in the most tenacious opposition critic category.
During his term of service to the citizens of Nelligan, the holder of a doctorate in public health from the Université de Montréal, demonstrated leadership in health, immigration, labour-employment, the economy, SMEs, innovation and research as a Liberal spokesperson. He has also sat on several parliamentary committees, including those on public finance, the economy, and labour and social services. The MNA for Nelligan was also vice-chair of the National Assembly's Delegation for Relations with Morocco.
Throughout his mandate, Monsef Derraji has lent his voice to the victims of the reform of the Programme d'Expérience Québécoise (PEQ) tabled by Immigration Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette, who will eventually back down. He also stood up several times in the House to question the CAQ's mode of governance and to call for an end to the renewal by decree of the state of health emergency. Monsef Derraji also spoke out for his fellow citizens' priorities, repeatedly questioning the CAQ's pandemic management methods.
As Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition, he introduced an amendment close to his heart to ensure recognition of Parkinson's disease as an occupational disease caused by pesticides. Monsef Derraji also initiated the tabling of 2 bills, both passed unanimously: An Act to improve mental health support for entrepreneurs and farmers, and An Act to temporarily limit the fees that can be charged to restaurateurs for online ordering and meal delivery services.
"I'm delighted to have the opportunity to once again represent the residents of Nelligan. It's a privilege for which I'm very grateful. I would like to thank the residents and organizations with whom we have worked over the past four years to make Nelligan a living environment that lives up to our ambitions. We will continue to work together to meet everyone's needs
