Biography

A municipal councillor and member of the Executive Committee of Ville de Laval for 8 years, Virginie Dufour has been instrumental in Laval's green shift, notably through the protection of a majority of Laval's natural environments, including the 3 Grandes-Îles, culminating in the acquisition of two of them by Ville de Laval. Her actions have been recognized by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), which elected her a Climate Champion in 2019. She served eight years on the Comité consultatif d'urbanisme (CCU) and chaired the Comité consultatif en environnement (CCE) of the Commission des transports.

She has also served on the boards of Tricentris, a sorting center, and Montréal International. President of the Association québécoise d'urbanisme (AQU) and holder of an MBA, Virginie Dufour continues her commitment to the citizens of Mille-Îles, where she grew up, by bringing her environmental values to the National Assembly.

"When I announced my departure as a municipal councillor for Ville de Laval, I felt that I had reached the limits of what I could do for the environment at the municipal level. As MNA for Mille-Îles, the riding where I grew up and which, in my opinion, best represents my commitment to the environment, with its large farmlands, the 3 Grandes Îles for which I have worked so hard to protect, and the Boisé du Totem, the most beautiful forest in Laval. I'm proud to be part of Dominique Anglade's team, a woman of heart, integrity and family like myself, because she and her team will take real action on the urgency of climate change, and are committed to ensuring that Laval is represented by Laval residents and for Laval residents."
